School Camps Terms of Use
Okay, so you want to have your next school camp at Kopinga Marae, and now you want to know the terms of use of the marae?
No problem: Here they are......
Kopinga Marae: Terms of Use
We welcome all groups to come and use our wonderful marae facility. We have full kitchen and laundry facilities. We also have also have bathroom facilities available for disabled guests.
We encourage School camps and other groups to take full advantage of the kitchen facilities available, however should you wish us to provide you with a cook, we ask that you make contact with management about this. All prices are GST inclusive, unless otherwise stated.
We need to stress that this is a Marae facility. Therefore, like all Marae, you are encouraged to supply your own food, cook, and to keep the facility clean and tidy at all times.
To hire a cook for the duration of your stay would cost at least $25.00 an hour, this cost would be over and above your hire cost of the Marae.
Hire of the Marae for a School Camp:
From as little as $10 pp per night....Yes... Thats it! .... (This includes electricity/diesel).
This is for the whole group for one night, NOT PER PERSON. Thats it!!!!
So... if you have 60 people in your group, you may be able to accommodate them from as little as $600 per night. Where else in the whole country, apart from the great outdoors, can you get school camp accommodation at that price? Dont forget that this marae was only opened in 2005 and so is virtually brand new, and it is spectacular.
Other, much older maraes around New Zealand charge a lot more per person per night, with some reaching nearly $25.00. For a group of 60, that's a lot of hard earned fund raising and equals $1500.00 per night!
Even some of the more well-known, or well-used School Camp-Maraes, charge $17-$20 pp/per night. Thats still $1000-$1200 a night, some 200% dearer.
We will supply the following:
- Single Mattresses
- Sheets
- Pillows/pillowslips
AVAILABLE FOR HIRE :
- White Board $20.00
- Data Projector/screen $75.00
- Includes surround sound for DVD's
- DVD's documentaries for hire.
HISTORICAL PRESENTATION:
The Trust can present an interactive power point display on Moriori History, culture, the Marae itself and the Chatham Islands to your school group. Please contact us if you require this. There would be a charge for the prsenters time for this.
The "Rules"

- No eating or drinking (of anything) in the main whare-hui, as this would be very disrespectful.
